John Piper walks out to pray over #Passion201

Session Notes: John Piper

Piper: Jesus wants us to lead lives that makes God look glorious.

Piper: Paul said ‘All things were created through and for Jesus Christ.’

Piper: So it’s clear that God intends for your life to bring him glory.

Piper: I think it’s fair to say that all human beings are created to put God’s infinite value on display. That’s why you exist.

Piper: I want that to happen in your life for all the decades that God may give you, so I have one point to make.

Piper: Seeing and savoring the supremacy of Jesus Christ frees you from the slavery of sin for the scarifies of love.

Piper: Faith in Jesus Christ frees you from the slavery of sin for the sacrifices of love.

Piper: God loves it when you in your soul are seeing him, savoring him, being satisfied by him, and trusting him.

Piper: When all that happens, you, outwardly, are set free from the slavery of sins that people can see.

Piper: Seeing and savoring Jesus. Being satisfied in all that God is for us in Jesus. Trusting Jesus are equivalent realities.

Piper: 1. Why are seeing and savoring, being satisfied, and trusting equivalent  realities?

Piper: The root of salvation glorifies God privately, and the fruit of salvation glorifies God publicly.

Piper: People still haven’t waved the white flag of surrender to King Jesus.

Piper: You need to hear, what is it.. this thing called Saving Faith you’re supposed to have to be saved.

Piper: Saving faith is being satisfied in Jesus, seeing and savoring the supremacy of Jesus.

Piper reads John 6:35

Piper: I take Jesus to mean that Believing and Coming are the same. Believing in Jesus is a soul Coming to Jesus to be satisfied.

Piper reads John 1:12

Piper: Receiving Jesus and Believing in Jesus are the same.

Piper reads Hebrews 11:6

Piper: It’s blasphemy to come to God to give. He doesn’t need you at all. He’s the giver.

Piper: Coming to faith in Jesus requires a resurrection from the dead.

Piper: Bored people don’t decide to be satisfied with what is boring them. Which is why some of you are not yet saved.

Piper: Conversion is a gift of seeing.

Piper: We… ever since Adam and Eve… are dead. We are so corrupt in our heart, we cannot believe.

Piper: What we need is a resurrection, an awakening.

Piper: What is freedom if not being poised between good and evil?

Piper: Since we all dead, we are locked down hating good, loving ourselves, exalting our pride… and we need to be set free.

Piper: God doesn’t raise people from the dead to be neutral. He raises them to be His

Piper: There are two kinds of people in the world – slaves of sin and slaves of righteousness.

Piper: Freedom is seeing and savoring Christ so intensely that you are His totally.

Piper: The struggle between choices is a necessary temporary evil, until the day dawns when discernment and delight become one.

Piper: There will be no struggle in Heaven to obey.

Piper: 2. The supremacy of Jesus Christ

Piper: Jesus Christ has never sinned. He is just. He is patient. He is obedient. He is meek & tender. He is wrathful.

Piper: Jesus Christ is graceful. He is loving. He is glad.

Piper: Jesus Christ is eternal. He is knowledgable. He has authority. He has providence.

Piper: Jesus Christ is supreme over all the countries and all the governments.

Piper: Jesus Christ is supreme over nuclear threats and chemical threats, over politics and elections and Iowa caucuses.

Piper: There is not a square inch on planet Earth where Jesus Christ does not say MINE!

Piper: 3. Freedom from slavery and sin

Piper: All my life is devoted to just seeing.

Piper: Big hearts give little lusts little power.

Piper: Your heart has get bigger and bigger so this little temptation looks like the little sducidal monster it is.

Piper: 4. Freedom for the scarifies of love

Piper reads Hebrews 10:34

Piper: Your name. Your supreme name. Your renown. Your supreme renown. Are the desire of our hearts.

Piper: I want oh God, to see you, savor you, be satisfied in you, trust you, desire you, so deeply, so firmly…

Louie: Coming into Christ is like being hit with a lightning bolt.

Louie: What I believe right now is saving me.

Louie: God is opening my heart to Jesus and I want to be alive with Him.

Louie: Faith has been born in you and you know beyond a shadow of a doubt that you belong to God.

Louie: I just wanna ask tonight if you know now that you’re alive in Christ, that faith has been born in you?

Louie: If you have faith in Jesus, if you know you’re alive, stand right now.

Louie: Lord, we thank you for Grace. It is by Grace we are saved through Faith. It’s the gift of God.

Louie: We praise you tonight that faith is rising up in Your house.

Louie: All because of the cross of Jesus Christ. This is our confession. This is faith. Let’s lift it up.

Louie: Let’s let the neighborhood know what’s going on tonight. Come on, let’s lift it up!

*These notes are my own and may or may not reflect what John Piper actually said in this session.

John Stephen Piper (born January 11, 1946, Chattanooga, Tennessee) is a theologianpastor, and author. He is currently the senior pastor of Bethlehem Baptist Church, a Reformed Baptist Church located in Minneapolis, MN. Piper, holding to what is known as “historic premillennialism” (otherwise known as post-tribulationalism), is also a traditional 5 points of Calvinist, holding, additionally, to the “Calvinistic” ideas of double-predestination (the flip-side of unconditional election, also known as unconditional reprobation) and the best-of-all-possible-worlds (the belief that, in the longrun, God’s glory will be more fully displayed and His people more fully satisfied than would be the case in any other senario for the world.)
