Change In Form

When I took a visit to the vending machine one day it got me thinking. I inserted $1 and 25 cents. I pressed the giant Mountain Dew button (which is an amazing feature for those of us to can’t see to well), reached down and got my drink. The bottle was different. This wasn’t my first time noticing it, but it was different in shape.

Over the years Mountain Dew has changed their bottles, cans, logos, etc. We all know that over time you have to change, and to change you have to re-brand, and re-think. Mountain Dew in my opinion has done very well in this area. I love their product, their branding, and the way that they market their brand internationally.

My question was, why did the Mountain Dew corporation do this? and did they have to? What makes the new bottles better? How does this shape impact the utility of it’s consumers? How does change in form/shape impact you? Do you think it is important to change form over the course of time? What about from a spiritual perspective? How does the culture’s change impact what you believe? Does it mean anything at all?

John Piper is the Pastor for Preaching at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He grew up in Greenville, South Carolina, and studied at Wheaton College, where he first sensed God’s call to enter the ministry. He went on to earn degrees from Fuller Theological Seminary (B.D.) and the University of Munich (D.theol.). For six years he taught Biblical Studies at Bethel College in St. Paul, Minnesota, and in 1980 accepted the call to serve as pastor at Bethlehem. John is the author of more than 30 books and more than 25 years of his preaching and teaching is available free at desiringGod.org. John and his wife, Noel, have four sons, one daughter, and an increasing number of grandchildren.

This sermon really grabbed me. I really appreciate the fact that Piper can speak to me in such an amazing way even though he isn’t anywhere near my age. Here is his sermon in one sentence. “Self, no matter how glorious, can never satisfy a heart made of God.” If you want a copy just shoot me an email. This was a message on Jacob and Esau. I’ve heard tis passaged preached many times, but this one was the most powerful i’ve heard yet. Summary in one sentence: God is going to introduce Himself with your name unless you trade your birthright for a bowl of stew. Hope you take something from this and can apply it to your life right now, at this moment that God has placed you in. If you want a copy just shoot me an email. The King Is Dead

The King Is Dead - The Decemberists

I constantly was aware that my brother was listening to them. I never game them my time of day. I didn’t have their new album in my itunes, until today. I had ZERO plays of them on their last album, which was already sitting in my itunes for months and months, with no Love! So today, I started listening to their latest album “The King Is Dead.” I’m in love. This music is good.

If you like any of the following bands or artists you’ll love The Decembrists.

Even if you don’t like any of the bands who says you can’t explore a new genre of music? I love finding new music to listen to. Check them out below. I bet you’ll fall in love with them just like me.

So what do you think? Let me know whats currently playing on your itunes playlist. I love hearing new music and discovering bands I’ve never listened to before.

Beth founded Living Proof Ministries in 1994 with the purpose of teaching women how to love and live on God’s Word. She has written numerous books and Bible studies, including Breaking Free, Believing God, and The Patriarchs, that have been read by women of all ages, races, and denominations. Through the years, American missionaries and expatriates have taken the Bible studies overseas, resulting in Beth Moore Bible study groups popping up all over the world. Upon completion of a tour of New England this fall, Beth’s Living Proof Live conferences will have taken her to all fifty states since 1994.
